Pentagastrin has been used to bidirectionally modulate lateral nucleus of the amygdala (LA) activity.
Biochem/physiol Actions
CCKB agonist that stimulates gastric acid secretion; anxiogenic.Pentagastrin is an agonist of the cholecystokinin-2 (CCK2) receptor. It helps to increase the excitability of neurons in the basolateral amygdala through the activation of a non-specific cation channel.
General description
CCK2R (cholecystokinin 2 receptor) is also referred as CCKBR. It is a G-protein coupled receptor, that is expressed in the central nervous system and throughout the gastrointestinal tract. CCK2R is located on human 11p15.
