Application

Angiotensin II (angII) human has been used to study its effect on interleukin-1?–mediated islet inflammation and ?-cell dysfunction.It has been used to determine if angII activates specific calcineurin-dependent NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T-cells) isoforms in cardiomyocytes.It has been used to study the actions of systemic angII infusions on glomerular permeability in vivo.It has been used to check the effects of angII on plasma triglyceride production and its association with insulin resistance in normal rats.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Angiotensin II (angII) is an octapeptide hormone which affects the activities of heart, kidney, vasculature and brain. AngII in blood is produced from angiotensinogen via renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). It works via binding to specific receptors present on cell membranes. AngII is a component of the renin-angiotensin system. It is associated with vasoconstriction, induction of vascular smooth muscle cell growth, stimulation of protooncogene expression, modulation of myocardial hypertrophy, renal failure and fibrosis.
