Adrenocorticotropic Hormone Fragment 18-39 human has been used for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)-TOF-MS and MALDI-MS.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulates the synthesis and release of glucocorticoids and androgens through cAMP-dependent by a G-protein coupled receptor in adrenal gland. Overproduction of ACTH leads to marked skin pigmentation.
Facilitatory effect exerted on paradoxical sleep in the rat: stimulates insulin release.
General description
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is synthesized from its precursor pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC). It is released from anterior pituitary gland in response to corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) from hypothalamus. The gene encoding ACTH is localized on human chromosome 2p23.3.
