(2-Hydroxypropyl)-gamma-cyclodextrin, solid
Application
Useful for solubilization of macromolecule, such as cholesterol, used in cell culture applications. Similar to β cyclodextrin, but able to solubilize larger molecules.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Harmalol, a harmala (β-carboline) alkaloid, is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOi) useful for studies involving melanogenesis. Harmalol is use in β-carboline nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) binding studies.
Other Notes
Non-toxic solubilizer. γ-Cyclodextrin (8-glucose units) has a slightly larger cavity and can accommodate larger substrates than β-cyclodextrin.
