Application
L-?-Phosphatidylcholine has been used in phospholipid solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to test its interaction with Factor VIII variants (N0 and N6). It has also been used in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide (PCOOH) substrate for the glutathione peroxidase (GPx4) assay.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylcholine is essential for acetylcholine synthesis and is crucial for very-low-density lipoprotein secretion in hepatocytes. The pathophysiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) displays a variation in the hepatic PC to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) ratio. PC alleviates inflammation in ulcerative colitis (UC) and its administration is effective for treating benign symmetric lipomatosis.
A major structural phospholipid in brain, comprising approx. 15% of total lipid; primarily localized to gray matter.
General description
Phosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid comprising a choline head group and is associated with organelle membrane and cytomembrane.
