Protein kinase A (PKA) is a mediator of cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) and contains two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. Mutations in PRKACA (protein kinase cAMP-activated catalytic subunit ?) are associated with Cushing?s syndrome. PRKACA encodes two splice variants, C?1 and C?2. C?1 is widely expressed and C?2 is restricted to the sperm cells.
