DL-alpha-Tocopherol acetate was used as a vitamin E supplement for studying whether the addition of an antioxidant or vitamin E in the diet of rats with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis can reduce detrimental impact of inflammatory bowel disease.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tocopherols are lipid soluble anti-oxidants that protect cell membranes from oxidative damage. ?-Tocopherol is the form of tocopherol preferentially absorbed by Homosapiens. DL-?-Tocopherol acetate can inhibit oxidation of linoleate.

?-Tocopherol is also known as a radical-chain breaker due to its anti-oxidant property.
