Application

Collagen from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm murine sarcoma basement membrane has been used in adhesion assays.

Recommended for use as a cell culture substratum at 6-10 µg/cm2.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Collagen isolated from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm murine sarcoma basement membrane helps in the development of 3D nodules. It is also used in 2D coatings.

General description

Collagen is classified into a number of structurally and genetically distinct types. We use the nomenclature proposed by Bornstein and Traub. Do not confuse Sigma type designations with recognized collagen classification types.

The substrate derived from engelbreth-holm-swarm murine sarcoma is laminin rich basement membrane. It is commercially available as matrigel and cultrex. Matrigel is made of type 4 collagen, laminin, heparan sulfate proteoglycan and entactin obtained from engelbreth-holm-swarm murine sarcoma. Type 4 collagen is a major component of basement membrane.
