Uricase from Bacillus fastidiosus, lyophilized, approx. 9 U/mg
Application
Uricase may be used for the determination of uric acid in biological fluids. It may be helpful in the spectrophotometric determination of purines and purine nucleosides.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Uricase catalyzes the oxidation of uric acid to 5-hydroxyisourate, which subsequently forms (S)-allantoin. It is involved in purine metabolism, urate degradation and (S)-allantoin formation .
Other Notes
For the determination of uric acid in biological fluids; In the spectrophotometric determination of purines and purine nucleosides.
Unit Definition
1 U corresponds to the amount of enzyme which oxidizes 1 µmole uric acid at pH 9.1 and 37 °C.
