4-Nitrophenyl N-acetyl-?-D-galactosaminide is a chromogenic substrate for enzymes N-acetyl-?-D-galactosaminidase and N-Acetyl-?-D-hexosaminidase. It is membrane-permeable and serves as a substrate for the enzyme 6-sulfotransferase in Golgi vesicles.
